Fans for cattle stables, greenhouses, chillers and cold stores
Cattle/dairy stables, calf stables
According to specialist literature, dairy cows feel the most comfortable at temperatures ranging from 0 to 16 °C. At higher temperatures, the cows regulate their heat balance themselves by drinking more water – up to 180 litres per day. Influencing factors for the way the animals feel include air temperature, humidity, heat irradiation and wind speed. At 70 % humidity, heat stress starts at 21 °C for cows. Cows perceive temperatures of 29 °C and up as severe heat stress; for temperatures of 36 °C and up, the heat stress is considered very dangerous for a cow’s health – this is accompanied by financial losses of several hundred euros per animal and year. When experiencing heat stress, cows look for shady places with a light breeze. Effective regulation of the supply and exhaust air requires the flow of air on the animals to have a speed of at least 2 m/s. Even 5 m/s does not pose health problems for cows.
In the meantime, people are often aware of this situation - but they lose sight of the calves. Calves also suffer greatly from the heat. This begins before birth in the cow's womb and continues throughout the growth phase. Consequences are, for example, lower birth weight and higher body temperature. Further consequences later are, for example, lower daily gains, higher maintenance needs, later age at first calving and ultimately higher rearing costs as a result. Igloos in the blazing sun increase the negative effect. One of the important measures in this context is good ventilation or good air exchange.
Cooling and refrigeration technology
ZAplus fans are also used in cooling and refrigeration technology in heat pumps, cooling towers and chillers. In addition to lower noise emissions, their design also offers excellent protection against thermal short circuits. ZAplus fans are also used successfully in transformers, power plants and data centers. ZAplus fans are ideally suited for retrofit projects.
Greenhouses and cold stores
In greenhouses and cold stores, it is a question of an even distribution of the desired temperature in the room. In greenhouses, cold stores, blast freezers or hall fans, individual spots with higher or lower temperatures form repeatedly, resulting in heat spots at high temperatures or icing in cold stores. These disparities are counteracted by the targeted use of fans. The fan materials used are approved for use in the food sector.
ZAplus fans from Ziehl-Abegg achieve optimal technical values in comparison tests, especially by means of mounted guide wheels and long-throw crosses that concentrate the air flow better and thus achieve greater throwing distances. In the EC design, the fans are very energy efficient, are small in size and are very light.
